"Best gift I ever bought my grandson" 2010-02-05
By Lucille Ramos (Gonzales, Louisiana USA)
My grandson is 5 years old. He has always enjoyed building with legos. But once he was introduced to Wii, I thought his building days were over. The day this lego set arrived he was hooked again. Now when he visits he wants to build something. He and I spend hours together building and playing and even better making memories. I would recommend this product to any family becomes it has brought me much joy.

"Good variety of pieces" 2010-02-05
By Andrew (Vancouver, BC Canada)
My 8 year old daughter really likes this set, her first lego set. There are a good selection of different pieces (characters, clear plastic, ropes, fences, flowers, car pieces). I got her the large base plates which she likes to build on. They are not necessary though, as the set comes with small small green ones.

The set seems to be a good value for the money, as it can be expensive buying all the little sets. My daughter plays with it for hours at a time.

It would have been nice to have a booklet with sample creations.

"Build a Mario Bros world" 2010-01-21
By C. G. King (Horse Country, VA USA)
My grandson, a typical video gaming 9-year-old, stopped everything to play with this set received for his birthday. There are so many different types of pieces the possibilities seem to be endless. First, he created a chef driving a car. A chef? Yep, there's even a tall hat and white coat. The finished product was much more 'finished' looking than I expected. I've always thought Lego creations would be blocky affairs, but not so. Things have come a long way. This little convertible, which included a tiny steering wheel and clear windscreen, was very finished looking and the chef driving added humor and surprise. I was delighted with his cleverness (but I'm his grandmother so that's expected :) while also delighted at the potential creativity of this set. His mother was delighted about the nice sturdy plastic box in which all the parts arrived and could be subsequently stored. It's big enough to hold all these pieces and more and even some finished creations.

This is a big set offering opportunities for endless creations. He was excited about the possibility of creating his own Mario Brothers Wii world and characters to take through their paces meshing that favorite activity with this one. Since his new Super Mario Bros game looks sort of like it is built with Legos, it spurred his imagination.

I was happy he was so pleased with this gift and highly recommend it.

"A BIG set of Lego's very much worth the money!!!" 2010-01-04
By Darlean May
This is a large set that makes so many things and the price is cheap compared to what a "pre-designed" set costs. My 11 year old son asked for only one thing from Santa this year and that was the Lego Death Star Santa brought that and his sister gave him this... which one has he played with more? THIS SET! great for imaginative play! it's better than 4 of the smaller $20.00 buckets and has more pieces.

I think it was a great deal for over 1600 legos. My family and I spend hours of fun enjoying them! The only thing that was missing was building instructions. I would recommend this product to other families or classrooms.

Explore Lego Town History
This special anniversary set comes complete with a letter from Lego owner Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, the grandson of Lego's founder. The company's "belief in the unlimited possibilities of play" and dedication to producing the best possible toys is highlighted by this huge, intricate set.

Redesigned to include modern bricks and details, this 1950's town center includes a gas station with a car wash, a movie theatre, and the town hall building. There are eight Lego mini-figures, classic cars, corner light fixtures, and a fountain to place in the town square. Collectors are sure to notice the inclusion of unique Lego elements and bricks in rare colors.

Bringing the Town to Life
With 35 bags containing 1,981 pieces and two large instruction booklets, the Town Plan set took our eight-year-old Lego tester about 12 hours to build. Like with all Lego sets, the instructions include here provide colorful step-by-step images that make it fairly easy for any diligent builder to create the detailed town buildings and vehicles. We did have about 20 left-over pieces at the end of construction, which puzzled our tester.

While it may seem like this mature set is designed to appeal to adults, our young tester immediately found lots of different ways to have fun with it. The cinema got a big thumbs up for having cool, realistic details like popcorn at the concession stand and a movie on the screen. The moving garage door and the scrubbers in the car wash were big hits, too.

The rooms inside Town Hall are a little small, which limits Lego figures who want to move around. This pushed lots of play out into the open area around the fountain. The three gold bricks in the fountain add a unique touch to this particular set. The one minor complaint that surfaced in our testing was that the flowers and vegetation "planted" around the Town Hall failed to stay securely attached when moving pieces around.

Overall, this is an expansive town set that promises lots of creative construction projects. With so many people and buildings, and more than one vehicle, this Town is a great pick for a single creative builder or cooperative play with friends and siblings. Additionally, with its unique 1950's vibe, this town is set to inspire fun, interactive play between parents or grandparents and kids. Odds are, you'll even find yourself driving the vintage car through the wash after your children have gone to bed--it's that cool.

"Town Plan is terrific" 2010-02-09
By L. D. Driscoll (Hanover, MA)
This is a really nice Lego set. Makes a good size town with all kinds of buildings, people and vehicles to build. Although it is marked for the age bracket of 12-14 years old, my 8 year old grandson had the patience to tackle this. It takes some time to create, providing many hours of fun. When completed it is a good size, but not huge, so he was able to keep it set up to play with over and over again. Was very happy with this purchase.

"A must-have for any Lego town!" 2009-07-31
By C. L. Hanson (Coon Rapids, MN United States)
The Lego Town Plan is the coolest Lego set I've seen in years. This set is what helped me decide to collect Lego's again, after being a huge Lego Maniac back in the 1980's. I can't help but think about how much fun I would have had with this set as a kid.

What you get is well worth the money spent. We're not talking huge buildings here, but you really can't go wrong, and would be a great start (or addition) to any Lego Town. The retro design is so cool, it looks like they come right out of the 50's!

I'd say out of the three buildings, the gas station is the one with the most play value. The detachable gas pump island allows you to place the pumps anywhere, although it would have been cool to have them be more stationary so they aren't in the middle of the road...etc. The garage is cool, comes with a sliding garage door and a bunch of tools, as well as the car wash (only smaller cars will fit in the garage and car wash). The snack shop comes with food in a display case and cash register.

The movie theater also has incredible detail, from the "Cinema" sign and marquee out front, to the soda and popcorn stand on the inside. Plenty of room and comfy seats for at least 5-6 minifigs to catch the western playing on the big screen. I maybe would have designed the ticket booth out front a bit different, but that's neither here nor there.

The town hall has a cool outer facade, and the fountain is cool as well. I purchased a seperate green Lego base plate and put the town hall on one end of the plate, with the fountain in the middle, like a park. The interior of the town hall leaves something to be desired, but I think the outer facade is the best feature. The flowers do pop off quite easily, but it's no big deal.

The blue roadster that comes with the set is very cool as well. It's a tight fit for minifigs, but a very cool car indeed.

All told, a very cool set. If you aren't a fan of stickers, well, it comes with quite a few stickers. There are no pre-labeled pieces, so if you look at the set, anything with lettering you have to apply. But again, no big deal. Just time consuming if you're a perfectionist.

Again, worth the money. Your town just isn't complete without it!

"Just what the city needed" 2009-04-14

This lego set was a nice challenge for our sons to build. The 8 year old could build most of it himself but needed a little help from older brother and dad. Great buildings, nice assortment of pieces, is definitely one of the favorite sets ever worked on as rated by the kids.

"A great set for beginners & intermediate Lego builders" 2009-02-04
By Denise Martin (Crystal River, FL)
We really enjoyed putting this set together. My son is 10 and has a short attention span and some LD issues but he really wanted to do this. He had done a Star Wars set but it was too "fussy" for him. In the "Town Plan" they divide the parts into numbered bags for each building and related parts, but there is still plenty of time searching for parts--just not so much time that you get frustrated. We put the related parts on paper plates so they wouldn't keep getting bumped off the table. My son worked on this a little every night (I helped look for parts), and he could easily follow the page by page instructions himself. He liked building something that was a replica of the original and he got a lot of encouragement to continue from seeing each section completed. (It's a big deal for him to finish something.) Sorry the photo isn't very good; we want to make something with roads for underneath, and we bought an extra set of "Town" people to add to it because my son loves to play with it.

""All I Can Say Is: WOW!"" 2010-01-05
By Scott Allen (New York)
What a wonderful Lego set! Excellent build quality, clear directions, and the finished product is massive! After spending almost 12 hours together building this wonderful tower, my 9-year-old said: "All I can say is: Wow!"

The first part of the tower, the bottom third, is unstable during the building process, but when you connect all four "feet" of the tower, it becomes stable. (This must have been true of the real tower when they built it in the 1890s as well). The middle and top sections are very tight and stable the whole way along. The design is brilliant, divided in three parts for stability and mobility. The attention to detail is astounding; this set even has the elevators inside the tower that people who have never visited the real tower have probably never noticed.

Lego creates their products with such care and perfection. Despite having over 3500 pieces, not a single piece was missing. At one point, we thought a piece was missing that we needed to move forward with construction. We took a piece from a different Lego set that was the wrong color, intending to email Lego to have them send the right color piece out later. However, later in the process, we found the correct piece! We simply carefully exchanged pieces to make the color correct. We have built over 10 big Lego sets together and have never found them to be missing a piece.

I agree wholeheartedly with those that say you should keep the pieces organized and not dump them all in one pile. On the other hand, it's unnecessary to separate pieces by every single piece type, because Lego was smart enough to have the pieces mainly sorted by type in each bag inside the box. We just dumped all the "tiny" pieces in one box together, and had to dig for them when needed. The organization was actually quite easy for this project.

The best thing of all was hearing my daughter say to me every day as we built this project together "I really love building Legos with you, Daddy!" As others have noted in their reviews, building this tower together can be a great way for people to bond together. It is much more satisfying than a video game, and the three-dimensional aspect makes it a lot more fun than a jigsaw puzzle.

Now we are eager to visit the real Eiffel Tower. We have a renewed respect for Mr. Eiffel's amazing accomplishment and appreciation for how proud the French are of this wonderful landmark.

Well done, Lego company! Now if they would only make another landmark tower such as the Chrysler Building or the JinMao tower from Shanghai!

"This project wins on every level." 2009-12-21
By T. Farnsworth (Portland, OR)
3' tall is large for a Lego piece. It was taller than 2 of my kids. 8 hours of building according to the excellent directions. Lots of fun - you learn building techniques, architecture, have fun with building, and at the end you have a lot of very usable pieces for other creations. Truth be told, some of the pieces I have not used again, but that's to be expected, I think. Nothing as specialized as you'd get in many of the space sets, I just haven't built many buildings on this same scale since. Excellent investment.

"The best Lego Set Ever!!!!!!!!!!" 2009-07-27
By
I recently got the Lego Eiffel Tower. My mom said i should put this on here so, i'm 10 years old and i finished building the Lego Eiffel Tower in 1 day. The easiest section to build is the 2nd one. The 2nd and 3rd sections are pretty durable but the 1st section isn't very durable. Never try to take this somewhere by car. Pieces break off and then you lose them. Over all, this set is awesome. It is very detailed. Make shure you don't let people touch it cause that can break it to. KEEP PETS AWAY FROM IT. And NEVER let your little siblings play with it or around it!!!!!!!!!!!! Following these things will keep it from breaking.

"16+ no kidding" 2009-06-26
By Pooparat Plodpradista
Very high in detail and exceptional structural design. The durability is very good consider it's a plastic brick toy. Some reviewer compliant about is not durable after done building it, I don't agree. If you are a seasoned LEGO builder and know where to push or hold when you put together pieces so they would stick together very tight, I would say this LEGO Eiffel Tower is very sturdy. I have tested by dropped it from the table height and of course the tower break but only those little pieces (like the flag, the radio pole, and the little decorate vertical brick) the core structure still hold pretty good.
After finishing this piece make me want to buy LEGO Taj Mahal (wait for the price drop).

PS: It isn't kidding about "age 16+" on the box, building this set require lots of effort and patience (took me 14 hour to complete it).

By CJ Cunningham
We ordered this as a gift for our 5 year old. He loves it. He immediately put it together (with a little help) and has been playing with it constantly. It is a hit with the friends that come over as well. The instructions are easy to follow, the garage doors work and there are 4 fire fighters that come with the set. Pieces are durable. There are a lot of little pieces that can easily be lost if not vigilant in keeping them together. However, they have included a box of extra pieces in case some of the smaller ones get lost. A good addition to any Lego collector's set.
